Tinnitus – Good Sound Versus Bad

Posted by slang on 16 Apr 2007 | Tagged as: Sound Therapy, Medical Articles

As mentioned “good” sound enhances our health and well being. However in the case of Tinnitus which is the persistent noises like buzzing/ringing/whistling/humming/beating in the ear. The noise may vary in pitch from a low roar to a high squeal, and you may hear it in one or both of your ears. In some cases, the sound can be so loud it interferes with your ability to concentrate or hear properly. For those who suffer from chronic tinnitus, the infuriating ringing caused millions of people infected to have trouble working, sleeping and going about their daily lives. The unfortunate new is that Tinnitus is one of the most common hearing disorders in the world. Those who suffer from it hear buzzing or ringing sounds that cannot be blocked out. For some with chronic Tinnitus, the noises are so irritating or a nuisance which can never go away which greatly degrade their quality of life to the extent that they cannot lead a normal life.

According to experts, the causes of  Tinnitus are many which includes the following:.

 ·         tinnitus is connected with age-related hearing loss,

 ·         it is also caused by frequent or sudden exposure to loud noise,

 ·         ear injury or ear infections

·         certain medications,

·         tumours or ·         for no apparent reason,.

Reported in the NST(17/4/09) there is a treatment to reduce the bad sound of  Tinnitus which are extracted below:

·         this method is available for the first time in Asia,

 ·         this treatment is called Tinnitus Phase-Out (TPO) which act as a relay station that will help to reduce the noise the patient hears.

 ·         The mechanism is as follows:
“All noise travels in sound wave form. How it works is the doctor analyses the audio characteristics of the patient’s tinnitus and record the patient’s specific pitch and volume level. He will then create the anti-noise-sound with an identical frequency but in the opposite phase. This will significantly reduce, and in some cases eliminate, the patient’s perception of tinnitus. This solution is then programmed into the patient’s own Patient Treatment Device.”

·         By listening to the therapeutic sound pattern through headphones for just 30 minutes, three times a week, the patient will be able to obtain relief from their tinnitus on an on-going basis.

·         According to a research study presented at the 8th International Tinnitus Seminar in Pau, France in September 2005, this method demonstrated an 82 per cent success rate in treating patients with persistent tinnitus. It is, however, not a cure but it will reduce the noise. The patient will still be  likely to still hear some tinnitus sounds but usually at a reduced and more manageable volume.

The Healing Sounds (Part 1)

Posted by slang on 16 Apr 2007 | Tagged as: Sound Therapy, Qi qong/Chi Kong

Refer to my earlier article on Mantra which is one form of sound therapy, let’s  turn next to a very useful sound therapy cum qigong method which is called The Healing Sounds.

You might ask why and how sound can heal the illness of a person.

Illness in this case is not the external type but rather the  internal sickness which is developed through “stuffing and accumulating of negative emotions”. Do understand that thoughts and emotions are just energy. Some of us are taught to suppress/pent up our feelings and emotions for the pure sake of politeness, dignity, productivity or survival. If this suppression is taken too far and we hold back and “choke” our emotions, the energy of the emotions will remain inside the body. These negative energies continue to condense, coagulate and harden to form energy blockages. These blockages restrict energy flow which can then cause illness.

Furthermore, some of us might also accumulate chi/qi blockages from past traumatic memory/experiences during the past and our childhoods that are so physically and emotionally painful that we can barely recall them if at all. Again over a period this old energy will condense and form an energy blockage.

The Chinese believe that the aforesaid  energy blockages created by emotions tend to cluster and connect with the five yin organs. They understand that certain types of emotional energy are attach to specific organs namely:

  • fears clings to the kidneys
  • anger to the liver
  • overexcitement and anxiety grip the heart
  • worry lies in the spleen
  • grief in the lungs.

Hence, the Healing sound were devised to cleanse the negative emotional energy from the organs and reestablish their energetic vitality.

How is this done? By directing one’s awareness and making the appropriate sound, the organ is vibrated, thereby shaking loose the extraneous negative chi.

Still not convinced? Think then about singing which releases and express emotion and vibrates the lower torso where most of the organs are located.

The Healing Sound is merely a more systematic, distilled and specific way to purge emotional energy.

Overcoming Our Fears

Posted by slang on 14 Apr 2007 | Tagged as: Sound Therapy, Qi qong/Chi Kong

In the book, ” The Chinese Art Of Walking”, the qigong master Mdm Sheng Kung Yun explained her success in overcoming her  fears practising the ” Conquer the Devil Kung”.

In earlier articles on mantra, this exercise is akin to using the power of sound to fine-tune your respective organs which governs our human emotions.

Maybe you can try this to see whether it works for you:

  1. first recite “On, Ah, Hon”
  2. then shout loudly the word ” Pei” while stamping your foot on the ground.
